Literally translated from the Japanese, shiatsu means “finger pressure.” Invented in the 1920s, it is based on traditional Chinese medicine and is a form of acupressure. It is unique in that the practitioner uses their fingers and thumbs on your body’s acupressure points.
What happens during your treatment?
Shiatsu is done while you remain fully clothed, you may be on a massage table or a mat on the floor. The practitioner works on various points in your body, known as meridians, to stimulate energy flow and improve healing. The pressure is not painful but may feel a little uncomfortable. Let the practitioner know if the pressure is too strong.
