ART THERAPY

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a treatment approach that integrates psychotherapeutic techniques with expressive art forms to aid in the healing process. Art based therapy interventions are tailored to each client based on assessment of client's needs and goals. Art Therapy focuses on the exploration of art and the process of creating. Art provides insight into our behaviors, inner thoughts, and feelings through images. Art offers a unique way to explore emotions and process experiences. Art therapy can be a powerful modality in change, growth, our sense of self, and well-being.

What to expect in a session?

The Art Therapist will work together with you to determine the best materials for your experience and comfort. The therapist will create a safe, nonjudgmental therapeutic space to allow for growth and healing. Your sessions will potentially include collage, painting, drawing, and clay.

Meaning Making

  • Art Therapy With Children

While working with children clients, the Art Therapist will tailor interventions and materials to match the child's needs, goals, and preferences. Children are able to explore their feelings and thoughts using images. When words are absent, art is present. Art Therapy opens up dialogue about situations that may be hard to share. The Art Therapist will collaborate with the family to develop an appropriate treatment plan and goals for the needs of the child.

  • Art Therapy With Adults

While working with adult clients, the Art Therapist will provide a variety of directives to support the growth of their healing. Through art therapy you can process difficult emotions from a safe distance. It is not about the final product but the creative process and expression. Please remember there is no good or bad art. Art experience or training is not necessary. You will not be judged or graded on your art ability.
