Tired of temporary fixes?
Discover a more personalized approach to nutrition and health—one that looks beyond symptoms to understand what your body needs to feel and function at its best.
For people seeking answers, better health, and a more proactive approach to prevention and longevity.
Your Mood, Metabolism, Health, and Longevity Are Connected. Your Nutrition Care Should Be Too.
Mood, metabolism, energy, inflammation, gut health, hormones, and nervous system function are deeply connected. At FLOW, we take a whole-person approach to nutrition care—looking beyond generic meal plans to understand your unique health, lifestyle, symptoms, and goals.
Whether you’re navigating persistent symptoms, managing a busy career, or proactively investing in your health and longevity, we create personalized strategies designed to help you feel and function your best. When appropriate, advanced testing and targeted supplementation can provide deeper insight and guide your care.
Your body has a remarkable capacity to heal and adapt when given the right conditions. Our job at FLOW is to help create those conditions.
Wherever You're Starting From, We Meet You There
Navigating Persistent Symptoms
Ongoing symptoms that haven’t fully resolved through standard care, fatigue, digestive issues, mood shifts, or brain fog. We look at how these connect across systems, rather than treating each in isolation.
Managing a Chronic Diagnosis
Living with a diagnosis like diabetes, an autoimmune condition, or hypertension, and want nutrition support that works alongside your medical care, not instead of it, with a root-cause lens layered on top.
Mental Health & Cognitive Clarity
You want your nutrition and mental health care working together, not in separate silos. We look at gut health, nutrient status, and nervous system function alongside your existing care.
Cardiometabolic Health
Cholesterol, blood pressure, or blood sugar moving in the wrong direction. Rather than generic dietary advice, we look at the underlying metabolic drivers behind the numbers.
Weight Regulation
Weight that hasn’t responded to calorie-focused approaches. We look at hormones, blood sugar, and gut health — the metabolic picture behind the scale.
GLP-1 Support
Using a GLP-1 medication (Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, etc.)? Many people hit plateaus without nutrition support — often leading to higher doses, more side effects, and greater rebound weight gain after stopping. We help protect muscle mass, manage side effects, and support your metabolic health throughout treatment and after discontinuing — so you’re not relying on dose increases alone.
Proactive Prevention & Longevity
Labs look “normal,” but you want to stay ahead of family history, aging, or early warning signs most standard screening misses.
Performance & Optimization
You’re already functioning well and want to function better, fine-tuning energy, focus, and performance using your own data and biochemistry.
Supplementation Strategy
Taking supplements without a clear sense of whether they’re working, or working for you specifically. We build a targeted approach based on your actual biochemistry, not trends.
Functional nutrition at FLOW works for people with very different starting points, because the approach is the same: understand the full picture, then build a personalized strategy around it.
How It Works
A Process Built Around You, Not a Template
Every client starts in the same place, being heard. From there, the path is personalized to your goals, health history, and what we uncover along the way.
Discovery Call
A conversation to understand what you’re looking to improve, where you’ve been, and whether our approach is the right fit. No commitment and no assumptions about what you need before we’ve heard your story.
Deep-Dive Assessment
We look at the full picture: your symptoms, nutrition, lifestyle, health history, and how systems like gut health, hormones, blood sugar, inflammation, metabolism, and nervous system function may be connected. Much of the real insight starts here, before any test is ordered.
Advanced Testing, When It Adds Insight
When testing can clarify the picture, uncover something we’re missing, or help guide a more precise strategy, we use it. Testing is selected for your specific situation, not a default panel run on everyone.
Your Personalized Strategy
We turn what we’ve learned into a practical strategy built around your goals and your life, combining nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted supplementation where it’s genuinely useful. No generic protocols or one-size-fits-all plans. Many who experience chronic fatigue, brain fog, or lack of vitality can benefit by addressing underlying nutrient deficiencies, mitochondrial health, and oxidative stress.
Ongoing Support & Refinement
Health isn’t static, and neither is your plan. Follow-up sessions allow us to measure progress, troubleshoot what’s getting in the way, and refine your strategy as your needs change. When relevant, care can also be coordinated with FLOW’s clinical mental health team, so your physical and mental health aren’t addressed in separate silos.
This isn’t a one-time fix. It’s an ongoing partnership designed to turn insight into meaningful, lasting change.

What Clients Are Saying
Why Functional Nutrition — And Why FLOW Is Different
Nutrition care can take many forms. While traditional nutrition counseling often focuses on dietary guidelines, nutrient needs, meal planning, and managing specific conditions, functional nutrition looks deeper at the connections influencing your health.
Rather than focusing only on what you should eat, functional nutrition asks why your body may be responding the way it is. We look at how nutrition, metabolism, gut health, hormones, inflammation, sleep, stress, and nervous system function may interact—and use those patterns to guide a more personalized approach.
At FLOW, functional nutrition means:
- Listening first, testing second. We start with your symptoms, health history, nutrition, lifestyle, and goals. Advanced testing is used when it can provide meaningful insight—not automatically ordered for everyone.
- Clinical reasoning over protocols. A test result or symptom doesn’t automatically lead to a supplement. Recommendations are considered within the context of your complete health picture.
- Advanced clinical training. Tommy holds a master’s degree in Human Nutrition & Functional Medicine, completed more than 1,000 hours of postgraduate clinical internship, and is a Board Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), with additional advanced training in Functional Blood Chemistry Interpretation and Analysis.
- Personalized nutrition care. Your strategy is built around your physiology, goals, preferences, and real life—not a standardized protocol.
Functional nutrition isn’t about chasing individual symptoms or lab results. It’s about understanding the connections between them and creating a targeted, practical strategy to support your health.
What to Know Before You Begin
No. We start by listening to your full story, symptoms, and history. Testing is used only when it adds meaningful insight or helps clarify the next step. It’s a tool, not a requirement or the starting point for everyone.
This work is designed to complement your existing care, not replace it. As part of FLOW Wellness Center, functional nutrition can integrate with our clinical mental health team, so connections between nutrition, metabolic health, gut health, stress, and mood can be considered alongside your mental health care. When appropriate, we can also collaborate with your therapist, psychiatrist, or physician rather than working in a silo.
Absolutely. Many clients come to us already doing well but want to optimize further, whether that means more consistent energy, sharper focus, better metabolic health, or investing proactively in healthy aging and longevity. You don’t have to wait for something to go wrong to start improving your health.
Yes. We provide nutrition support alongside GLP-1 treatment, with a focus on preserving muscle mass, maintaining adequate protein and nutrient intake, supporting digestive health, and building sustainable habits for long-term metabolic health. We can also help you prepare nutritionally for life after the medication if you and your prescribing provider decide to discontinue it.
It depends on where you’re starting and what we’re working on. Some changes may be noticeable within the first few weeks, while improvements in metabolic markers, body composition, digestive health, or other longer-term goals can take more time. We’ll establish realistic expectations and ways to measure progress based on your individual goals.
We accept United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Highmark, Optum, and Veterans’ CCN. Insurance typically covers standard nutrition counseling, but it’s often limiting when it comes to the depth of functional nutrition and root-cause work. For that level of care, most clients choose self-pay. Exact pricing is shared during your discovery call, based on the level of support that fits your goals.
Ready to Understand What’s Behind How You Feel and Function? Whether you're navigating persistent symptoms, managing a chronic condition, or looking to perform at your best — the path starts with a conversation, not a commitment.
FAQS
Jumping on a brief call before diving in helps us both to better understand what working together will look like. You will have a few minutes to tell me a bit about yourself and what you are looking for help with. I then take a few minutes to briefly describe our practice and field any questions you may have. From there, if we both feel this is a good fit, I will provide you with booking information and get you set up with an appointment.
We offer several ways to work together, depending on your goals and the level of support you need. Self-pay services start at $150, with more comprehensive assessments and programs available. We also accept select insurance plans for eligible nutrition services.
Are you tired with symptom management and the same old dietary advice? Functional nutrition is an integrative and highly personalized approach to nutrition and wellness (health?) Rather than the traditional calorie counting, meal planning and symptom management, Functional Nutritionists hone in on deeper, more systemic imbalances, which allows them to address the root causes of diseases and optimize health.
Functional Nutrition is integrative and holistic, incorporating each person’s unique genetic variability, biochemical efficiency and environment. Assessing and treating the person as a whole, rather than seeing them as a cluster of symptoms, allows us to identify and correct imbalances at the root cause.
Unlike most Registered Dieticians whose education focuses a lot on food service and meal planning, a Functional Nutritionist is trained to identify the imbalances and root causes. Having a deep understanding of how interconnected the human body is, Functional Nutrition and Medicine look at things like your gut/digestive health, mitochondrial dysfunction; the role inflammation plays in your symptoms; sleep; recovery; stress and your own unique relationship with food
Functional Nutrition interventions aim to help restore balance and cellular health by addressing factors such as micronutrient deficiencies, metabolic imbalances, improving daily movement, decreasing stress, increasing healthy sleep, and even cultivating supportive loving relationships.
Dietitians are trained in clinical nutrition and often work from standardized meal plans and macronutrient targets. Functional nutrition asks a different question, not just what to eat, but why your body is responding the way it is, looking at the connections between your symptoms, gut health, hormones, and nervous system. For the full explanation, see the section above.
Each session builds on the last, reviewing progress, adjusting your strategy, and working through anything that’s come up since we last met. For a full breakdown of the process from first call through ongoing care, see How It Works above.
- While everyone’s health journey is different, the most motivated individuals who take ownership of their progress often see the quickest and most significant results. If you’re ready to do the work and stay consistent, you’ll begin to feel improvements within weeks and see lasting changes as we continue to fine-tune your plan together.
- The timeline for results depends on your unique health needs, but those who commit to making the necessary changes—putting in the effort and sticking to the plan—tend to see the best results. You’ll likely start noticing positive shifts in just a few weeks, and with sustained dedication, the long-term improvements will follow.
Traditional nutrition counseling often focuses on what you eat. Functional nutrition looks at the bigger picture, how digestion, blood sugar, hormones, stress, sleep, nutrient status, and other factors may be affecting how you feel. The goal is to better understand what may be driving your symptoms and create a more personalized plan.
Not necessarily. Testing and supplements can be helpful when they add useful information or support a specific goal, but they are never automatically required. We start with your history, symptoms, nutrition, and lifestyle, then decide together whether additional testing or targeted supplementation makes sense.
